American Giant Review - AndyLikesThings

I love me a good sweatshirt. Yeah, I still call them sweatshirts. "Hoodie" or "Hoody" is too...hip. It's not shorter, it sounds douchey, and it just doesn't roll off the tongue as well IMO. All that said, I've always been on the hunt for a great sweatshirt. Something that is warm and something that lasts. I've found both of those things in one sweatshirt. Enter American Giant.

Ever since I dove head-first into quality menswear, American Giant sweatshirts and hoodies have followed me around the internet. Whether it's via re-targeting ads on Instagram, seeing their products on blogs, or just randomly hearing about them on podcasts - they seem to be everywhere. So finally I decided to get a few of their products myself. In fact, I bought them two years ago and yup - you guessed it - they're still going strong today.

When I first got my American Giant sweatshirts, I was swimming in them. They were huge. Like, very very big. Now at the time, I didn't mind that. Needless to say my style has changed quite a bit since I first got them. After spending a few years in the gym, the sweatshirts now fit me almost perfectly. They're still a little big - each being a Large and I myself being 5'11 and around 180lbs - but they're ideal for those cool Minnesota mornings and evenings. In fact, I'll be heading up north on a fishing trip this weekend and my American Giant sweatshirt will be perfect for what the forecast calls.

As you can see by the links, the sweatshirts come in a variety of different colors and types. I'm preferable to the pull-over as I find they're a bit more classy and complete, and also don't have that wonky "zipper gut" you get from zip-up sweatshirts. I'm not sure if you get that same effect with American Giant sweatshirts as I don't own an American Giant sweatshirts with a zipper, but I'm pretty sure it's a sweatshirt-wide dilemma.

Build and Quality

Based on their internet following and the overall aura surrounding American Giant, you better believe their products are of the highest quality. Like I said before, I've had these American Giant sweatshirts since January of 2016 and they show little-to-no sign of wear. One of them is missing the hoody draw strings, but that is a very minimal issue. They still keep me warm. They're still hole-less. And they still fit great. In my mind there is no reason to by any other sweatshirts, really, for the foreseeable future. However, having a menswear blog you're going to acquire new and updated garments to write about so I imagine my closet will fill up with various other sweatshirts very soon.

Now, if you're thinking about purchasing an American Giant sweatshirt, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. I'd recommend sizing down if you are looking for a tighter fit. I've washed mine a few times and they have yet to really shrink, which is fine for me but may be an issue for some if they're looking for a particular fit in their American Giant sweatshirts

They're also fairly expensive. These aren't $30 Hanes sweatshirts. They are well-made, high-quality sweatshirts that are going to last you for years. So, needless to say, you're going to pay for what you get. The American Giant sweatshirt range anywhere from $79 to $89 as of this writing, depending on which model/type you go with.

Though a bit boxy sometimes, the American Giant sweatshirt is a staple of my closet and should be a staple for any quality clothing fanatic. The Navy colorway goes with anything and will keep you warm during Fall, Winter, and early Spring months with ease. I'm a huge fan of American Giant sweatshirts - and I can only assume all of their other products are just as well made. I plan on grabbing a few more garments from them and writing about those as well - so stay tuned for more updates on American Giant clothing in the future!
