Sure - you’ve heard of PRObiotics. But have you heard of PREbiotics? I hadn’t either until I found Wonder Drink Kombucha. The prebiotic kombucha drink hooked me - and then I had the opportunity to try out their classic kombucha. Long story short, I fell in love and have found my new favorite kombucha drinks.
First off, let's jump into why kombucha is such a health craze right now. I’m sure you’ve seen various brands of kombucha and you may feel overwhelmed and not know where to start.
Improved Gut Health Boosted immunity is the best! Due to the fermentation process, kombucha is full of probiotics. Probiotic bacteria are similar to healthy bacteria found in the gut. The more good bacteria in the gut, the better you’re going to feel overall.
The link between healthy bacteria in the digestive system and immune function is becoming more clear as studies continue to focus on gut health.
Reduce Cancer Risk Two studies, one in 2008 study and one in 2013, suggest kombucha could play a role in treating or preventing cancer.
Decreased Risk of Infection A type of acid called acetic acid, also found in vinegar, is produced during the kombucha fermentation process.
The year 2000 study found that kombucha was able to kill microbes fight a range of bacteria, suggesting that it may help kill the bacterial infections before they start.
Improved Mental Health The better you feel, the more clear and happy you’re going to be. Some studies suggest there may be a link between probiotics and depression.
A 2017 review concluded that there is strong evidence that probiotics may help treat depression. Though encouraging, the jury is still out on if drinking kombucha more frequently will help fight depression.
Decreased Risk of Heart Disease Levels of certain types of cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease. Studies in 2012 and 2015 found that kombucha helps to reduce levels of the cholesterol linked to heart disease. Cholesterol levels and heart disease are also influenced by diet, exercise, weight, lifestyle habits, and inflammation. However, the research cited here suggests drinking kombucha may help reduce the risk of heart disease.
At the same time, it is important to note that these studies were in rats. More research is needed to prove that kombucha reduces the risk of heart disease in humans.
Increased Weight Loss Green tea kombucha may aid weight loss. A 2008 study found that those who took green tea extract burned more calories and lost more weight than those who did not.
If kombucha is made with green tea, it follows that it could have a similarly positive effect on weight loss. Again, researchers need to look at kombucha and weight loss specifically before this is certain.
Better Overall Liver Health Kombucha contains antioxidants that help fight damaging molecules in the body.
It is also thought the antioxidant-rich kombucha detoxifies the liver.
Diabetes Management This delicious fermented tea may also be helpful in managing type 2 diabetes. A 2012 study found that kombucha helps manage blood sugar levels in rats with diabetes.
Wonder drink first sent a batch of their prebiotic option and right away I noticed the branding and how cool the can itself looked. The can’s, as seen in the photos, are a darker shade of maroon and look very cool with various other colors in their branding. Aside from nerding out on their packaging, I got to trying their product.
Short answer - it’s amazing. I took a few sips and came to the realization it wasn’t going to taste exactly like the traditional kombucha I was used to. It did have a slight tinge of an aftertaste but that was a small complaint in the grand scheme of how beneficial of a drink it was.
After downing my first can, and needing to head to a pool party later that day, I grabbed another can and took off. As I continued to sip the prebiotic concoction, it dawned on me how great of a summer drink it was. Bubbly, tasty, and good for me - I was pretty excited to bring it to the pool party and spread the good word.
A few days later, another package from Wonder Drink showed up and I was secretly hoping it was more of the prebiotic drinks. I soon realized the package was much heavier than normal and opened to find 5 variations of their traditional kombucha drink!
I was elated - it was full of flavors I had never dreamt of. One that stands out in my mind - and that most of my Instagram following asked me about - was the ginger/pear flavor. It was amazing and, again, so good for me.
The flavors and the ingenuity of Wonder Drink kombucha is enough to keep me hooked on their products for years to come.
As you can see, drinking kombucha teas can only be beneficial to your health. With the litany of prebiotic and probiotic beneficial bacteria, you’re going to feel better while your body continues to fight off bad bacteria. It’s a win-win all around.
These fermented teas not only helps improve digestion and increase overall health, it is most often gluten free which is great for overall gut health. Wonder drink kombucha knows how important gut health and overall health is to you and your family. That’s why they’ve created wonderfully tasty kombucha drinks that the entire family can enjoy together.
If you’re more the DIY type, that’s just fine! Home brewed and homemade options can be just as effective as those store bought brands found in health food stores. Plus, home brewing is a great project the whole family can enjoy! However, if you’re not sure of the entire process and maybe don’t have the time to dedicate to your own brew, Wonder Drink Kombucha is your best bet.
